Brainstorming for the Limited Edition Sketchbook

Horse Project

Coming up with an idea for the sketchbook tour is difficult. The topic I chose is “Create and Capture”. I would still like to explore further the idea of What is a home. After looking at several artists who are more or less sketching (surprise surprise) I am wondering if I should let loose and embrace the automatic style and let the unconscious side completely take over.  Automatism may quite a great experience!

While looking for inspiration I came across an artist Scott Wayne Indiana who had an interest in the metal rings on the sidewalks of Portland. These rings were used in the early 1900′s when people were using horses as their means of transportation. As it goes, when he began thinking of public art, it occurred to him to fasten toy horses to the ring. The project grew and many people embraced this new expression of art in the streets.

Thus The Horse Project was born!!

As I look at the various styles of graffiti in Edmonton I wonder about the history that we have.  Are there objects from our past that we are completely unaware of?  How do we begin to take notice of this history that we have?
